With the release of 2.0 we now have the text annotation tool in the DT PDF viewer tool-bar. In 2009 it was stated that these annotations were “not yet” indexable (and so are not used in generating search results.) Can we expect this anytime soon? It would be a huge plus (and, I would assume, easier than adding support for Skim notes which is the current major alternative to built-in PDF annotation .) I’m not sure what the technical barrier is–PDFkit supports getting text from annotations.
I will be added to a future 2.x release but not to the next maintenance release(s).
