Item Links Don't Behave as the Manual States

If you right-click on an internal link (x-DEVONthink-item://<recordID>) in an RTF document, you have the option to “Open Link In DEVONthink”, which opens the document in a new DEVONthink window (so that you can still view the originating window). Otherwise the linked document is opened in the window you’re looking at.

Is there a parameter you can add on to the query string of the link to “Open Link In DEVONthink” without having to right-click)? Or a keyboard shortcut to do that (I know command-clicking opens the link into a new tab, but that’s not what I mean).

Actually, while I’m at it, if you embed this sort of link into some text in an RTF:

x-DEVONthink-item://<recordID>?opentab=1

… it doesn’t open in a new tab, as the manual says it should. It just opens in the existing window (and what is supposed to happen in iOS?).

And similarly if you embed this sort of link into text in an RTF:

x-DEVONthink-item://<recordID>?openexternally=1

… it neither opens in the default external editor, ditto as the manual says it should. Again, it just opens in the existing window.

What happens if you double click on the link?

Stephen

Nothing. The second (dud) click of course takes place in the new document in the new window.

None of this scheme of links is set up for double-clicking like something in the Finder.

That’s very strange then: if it’s the case it’s not working as it does with Item Links in markdown files. If I double click (i.e. two clicks with little time between them) on an Item Link in a markdown file in DT the link opens in a new window.

Stephen

Given the odd behaviour perhaps reboot the machine.

I did say that this was in the context of links embedded in the text of an RTF document.

I tried the same (external app parameter or new tab parameter) with a Markdown file instead and it’s just the same: a double click is meaningless since the first click immediately opens the target document in the same window.

Odd behaviour? No. I’ve never heard of double-clicking links in any text document. In any case the behaviour survives reboots.

Just to be clear: I am talking about a link embedded in text in a document inside a DEVONthink window (that is, not in TextEdit or any other external app).
