Keyboard feedback has delay after copy/paste HEIC image to RTF note

After doing copy and paste of image into a RTF note, (HEIC from my iPhone copied to my Mac desktop) the keyboard feedback for the note is delayed about 1/2 second. Make’s it impossible to edit or add text to the note. When I delete the pasted image, the delay disappear making the text editing normal. I’ve tried a restart of my Mac and Close/restart of DT3 and the delay persists. Once again, it I delete the image from the DT3 note the keyboard interaction is normal.

How big is the image? I could image that a 1 or 2 MB image slows down RTF processing considerably. What happens if you export the HEIC as JPG and import that instead in your RTF?

Thanks so much. The HEIC image was 3MB. I opened it with preview and saved it as .jpg. Size went to 2.2MB, deleted the HEIC and pasted the new .jpg and the keyboard delay disappeared. And all seems fine. I didn’t know that attachments could slow down the processing of the RTF. I guess some other note format would be better if I have several images to include in a file??

Do you experience the same delay after pasting HEIC images into a TextEdit document?

I copied the HEIC onto clipboard. Then right-click paste into a new TextEdit document. I wouldn’t do a direct paste, instead, there were 2 options before allowing a paste - convert to RTFD format or duplicate. I tried duplicate first and it generated a copy of the initial TextEdit document with the image inserted. I didn’t see any deterioration in typing response. I then went back to the original new TextEdit document and selected " convert to RTFD" format. The image inserted just fine and I didn’t notice any deterioration in typing response. I then pasted 4 additional copies of the image into the document and there was no deterioration in the keyboard text entry speed - it was fine.

I am seeing no issue of typing slowdown after copying and pasting HEIC images into RTFD, neither in DEVONthink nor TextEdit.

What OS are you running?

This is on a Mac Mini, M1 running Sonoma 14.5. The issue is with Rich text notes created in DT3 3.9.6. As previously noted, I do not see any issues with TextEdit documents. I just replicated the issue, pasting the HEIC image into a new note. I then went back to the old note, pasting the 3MB HEIC image and confirmed the slow down. When I remove the image, the slow down also stops.

And for testing, I pasted 4 more copies of the .jpg version into the DT RTF and there were no slowdown problems. So, in my case, it seems to be related to an issue with the HEIC file

I’ll look at this in Sonoma shortly.
