Large blank space top and bottom of markdown preview window

Background information

I am running DT 4.1.1 Pro under macOS 26.2. I use markdown extensively and rely on DT’s inbuilt CSS for rendering it.

The problem

When I create a new markdown document (not using any template) there is an extensive area at the top and document in preview mode (only) that I am unable to access or delete.

My settings in DT Settings → Editing → Format are:

My plea

It has not always been so. I had the problem once last year, solved it and stupidly forgot to make a note of how I did so. I’d like to return to having preview of markdown files with no massive top and bottom margins.

This is clearly turns on something simple and I have done that simple thing without knowing what it was. If anyone is able to assist I should be most grateful.

Please note: this does not affect markdown rendered mode.

Did you enable typewriter-like scrolling? Then this is intentional and required.

Idiotically, and inadevertently, yes: thanks so much for the kind, prompt response—sanity has returned!

Me too! Happened upon the answer to the mystery, now fixed, with gratitude. I didn’t change the scrolling setting, and it never happened before. Upgrade to DT4?

And, as long as I’m here, what’s are inches of blank space at the top good for?

It’s not my preference - but the theory is that it is an immersive writing experience where you are always focused on the center of your screen with a consistent/comfortable viewing angle.
