'Link to files' instead off import into database

My database is HUGE. Because I donnot want to be dependent on DEVON database to access my files (don’t want to export in order to get my files 'back, and I don’t want to have my database (in size) times 2 (i.e. in the database and as separate files my HD).

Can you tell DEVONTHINK (Office) to not import the actual file, but use 'a link" files on my HD?

Just use the File > Index command (or Command-Option drag & drop). This will make the files searchable/comparable/classifiable but won’t add them to the database.

Is there an easy way to import files after they were indexed (for whatever reason)?

The “easiest” solution is probably to write a script for this.
