Can you point me to the DT3 help regarding links, and partiularlry links within an Indexed Database? When I link files within a database structure, are those links relative or absolute? Is there a setting to change relative vs absolute? I’m concerned as a may be needing to move either the parent or linked file.
Documents > Document Linking in the built-in Help and manual.
Just use item links (x-devonthink-item://...
) instead of relative (./...
) or absolute (/...
) links. Then you’re all set.
That doesn’t exist. You may have indexed folders (which appear as groups in DT), but there’s no such thing as an “indexed database”.
Thank you, I’ll check that out.
Thanks for the quick response. I’m going to check out BlueFrog’s references as well. I do use the item links. While I prefer to do things once, sometimes due to errors or other changes, I’ve either moved the linked file or the parent file that has the hyperlinks. They can either be moved with drag-n-drop or “Move To” within DT3. I’ve already found out the hard way if I move files in Mac Finder, the DT3 links get broken. I’m wanting to figure out if using item links maintains the path between the parent and linked files, as long as I use DT3 to move the files. Or, do I need to go in and edit all of the links if I do move the files.
Sorry for semantics. You are spot on, I’ve created a database and then used Index Files and Folders from a folder structure on my Mac. And I’m then adding RTF’s and related files into the created groups within DT3. I need to check out BlueFrog’s refs, and spend some time on Updating Indexed Items as well.
For a bit of background, I’m creating a fairly large database with each group being a topic and the related files also contained within the group. The purpose is to use DT3’s strengths to build the content but also allow me the ability to copy the individual MacOS folders and keep all of the content together as well as operational links.
