It’s been a long time since this was written
And many things have changed in five years…
- There has never been support for space-separated strings forming tags, on desktop or mobile.
- A list produces return-separated text which also will not form individual tags.
- Comma-separated strings work in DEVONthink To Go, though I think semi-colons are a better option for both our desktop and mobile apps. This would keep things like full names and “landmarks” as a single tag, e.g., _Flintstone, Fred" or “Austin, TX”.
Tags in the Shortcut action for DEVONthink To Go 4 are specified as text, not a list.
A list need to be looped or have returns replaced with the delimiter, in this case a comma.
Just to be clear … one more question.
So, the parameter asks for text, but doesn’t specify exactly how to use that text field for multiple tags.
I know that comma separation works from my own experiment.
I’m not clear if you are saying that `;` will also work, or you are lamenting a bad choice of the `,` that you would have rather been the `;`.

- Comma works in DEVONthink To Go.
It is my opinion, only semi-colons should be the tag delimiter. For example, a tag of New York City, NY or Picasso, Pablo should be treated as one tag. If someone wanted them separate, they can enter them as separate tags. And we have many people who do e.g., genealogy, property investing and management, travel information, historical research, etc.
I don’t disagree, but it’s a shame that the two platforms handle this differently.

They’re not the same application on the same platform. Much of the current parity between the two has only been possible with the major rewriting for DEVONthink To Go 4. Development has plenty to work on and things that can be made uniform will get there in due time.
