Is there a way to have a list of all the key-words in use in a DB?
Are you referring to tags? They are not the same thing as keywords, even if functionally similar.
If you select the database’s Tags group in the Navigate sidebar, you will see a list of all the tag in it…
If you’re looking for something else, please clarify your question.
Not tags …key-words as metadatas
A screen capture would be helpful.
I enter key-words using the inspector (properties) for each file, i have hundred of tags and I have hundred of key-words, so i was wondering if there was a way to get a list of all my key-words. I know i can convert them to tags but prefer to keep them separate>
I don’t know if it exists out of the box, but you can try scripting it. OTOH, “keywords” is not very specific. There can be keywords in PDF and in the metadata
property of a record. Depending on your data, you might have to read both.
OTOH: What good is a “list of all keywords”?
for example : i have a field in metadata … Philosophy = level 1 then i have the key-word = Metaphysics = Level 2 then i have the tags = Level 3 = Heidegger etc
So from a general perspective to a detailed perspective from non specific to specific thats why i was curious to know if i could get the list of key-words as i get the list of tags
As I said: You can. But isn’t it a bit unusual to have a hierarchical taxonomy distributed over three different “metadata”? Why not use hierarchical tags
Philosophy => Metaphysics => Heidegger
. Or, if Heidegger is also associated with other philosophical concepts, have Philosophy => (Heidegger, Metaphysical)
as hierarchy, that is both “Heidegger” and “Metaphysical” are tags under “Philosophy”?
Distributing your data over three “metadata” locations makes finding something perhaps a bit challenging?
Yes right thats what i am considering too, may be more simple and easier … so everything is a tag ? what is the use of key-words then?
Thank you looking into it too …
Keywords can be useful in search. Tags and folders/groups are better suited for organization. Choose the method that fits your preferred approach to retrieving information.
