I’ve registered for DT 4, having been happy with the utility snd service of the legacy version.
I mostly use the program to realize a paperless office, storing everything from bills, receipts and investment literature to travel recommendations and intriguing interior design considerations.
With the option of incorporating AI, I am wondering which LLM(s) might be most effective to run prompts such as the following without posing excessive privacy risks. Any recommendations?:
“Flag any funds that have increased their expense ratios in the past 2 years.”
“Based on distribution histories and turnover, which of my investment funds are least tax-efficient?”
“Create a line graph charting the fluctuating costs of all my monthly utilities over the past 24 months.”
“Review my receipts to suggest a list of restaurants I haven’t dined at within the last four months and that typically costs me less than $125.”
“Identify recurring color schemes or materials in my favorite living room inspiration images.”

Please read the Getting Started > AI Explained section of the built-in Help and manual to see how external AI is integrated into DEVONthink.
Thank you. I actually read that section early this week—very helpful.
My question isn’t so much a “how to?”, but a “which one?” I’m curious which LLM model people think would be most effective at achieving the types of prompts I listed. Claude? GPT? Something else?
DEVONthink and the GenAI integration work with (selected) documents, groups and databases, therefore your prompts might need rephrasing and be more specific.
I’m glad it was helpful. Did you read the subsequent AI in Practice section?
There is no one-size-fits-all, “this is the AI to use!!” answer. In fact, you may prefer the responses from one AI provider over another, e.g., Claude vs ChatGPT, in one context but feel differently in another.
Getting to know a provider’s models and how to talk to it is an important thing to spend time on. If you want to go the more expensive route, you could choose the highest tier, with the usage set to Best. It will likely take longer, but be more accurate and of course, cost more to use. But again, it depends on the tasks at hand.
