Markdown metadata combine with placeholder

Hello everyone,
Quick question:
when I write Author: Yuval at the beginning of a markdown file, I get Yuval to appear in the Author field in the properties inspector.
But what if I wish to use a placeholder instead? for this property or others? For example, writing Author: %author% puts %author% as it is in the field.

Using a template containing this placeholder to create new documents should work.

Thank you, @cgrunenberg,
so typing it manually to an existing note doesn’t work? Or am I doing anything wrong?

It could only “work” in the sense of “replace the placeholder in the rendered MD but keep it unchanged in the raw MD” if the MD renderer knew anything about DT’s placeholders. Which I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.
