Maximum characters for Finder comments?

What are the limitations to Finder comments? Is there e.g. a maximum number of characters?

I don’t know the Finder’s limit off the top of my head but DEVONthink can exceed it internally. Why?

As I cannot access Annotations on DTTG I’m using (Finder) comments a ‘temporary’ storage for things I ultimately write in a Markdown file. It’s rather limited but I’m just wondering if I have to take any limits into account.
