Menu bar markdown input with image

When entering markdown in the menu bar, images are not captured into Devonthink simultaneously like they are in the window case.

How do you “enter markdown in the menu bar”? Do you mean creating a new MD document from the menu (Data => New => Markdown text)? Something else? But what? And which images are you talking about? What is “the window case”?

Perhaps some screenshots could help to explain the issue.

I suspect @ulmulm is talking about using the Sorter from the menu bar for input? I’m not at a computer to test right now.

I agree more details are necessary.

Sorry, I mean the Sorter from menu bar. And I add some screenshots.

As you might have already discovered, it’s not possible to drag-and-drop images into the Take Note panel of the Sorter. Copy and paste will do the job. If you copy an image link from the browser, you’ll need to add the leading ! manually.

A menu bar popup is supposed to hide automatically when the user focuses on something else. Drag-and-drop requires selecting the image/file first, and that action will hide the popup. To me it’s expected behavior.

Actually…

Depending on what else the Sorter is used for, the request is possible.
In DEVONthink’s Settings > Sorter, set Appearance to None.
Make sure you have defined a hotkey for Take Note.

Press the hotkey and an independent Take Note window appears. And guess what… it floats over your other windows so you can compose and drag and drop to this window. And if you’re composing in Markdown, it will add images with a Markdown-compliant link.

(Granted this is for raw composition, so it logically doesn’t support previewing the content. But it’s intended purpose is to quickly get a core thought down, not to be a full-blown Markdown editor.)

And yes, you can compose plain and rich text or formatted notes as well.

Also… if you’re using our browser extension, this window will also appear when clipping web content.

Thanks, rich text notes are good for me.
