Merging PDFs in order in the item list

I tried this in DTTG. It is not merging in the order in the item list. Not merge from top to bottom. The topmost selected document didn’t become the first page of merged document.

DTTG has a different behaviour?

DEVONthink is not DEVONthink To Go and developed, so I wouldn’t start with the assumption they both behave the same way in all cases.

Regarding the merging, @eboehnisch would have to comment. I thought it was based on size but that appears to not be the case.

They should, actually, currently be sorted by name. But they could be also sorted by the current view options. Noted as a feature request.

Will work using sorted by name for now. Looking forward to sorted by current view option.

I observe that the name of the merged pdf is truncated name of the original pdf. Different length. Sometimes, numbers are truncated. Can you share how the name of the merged pdf is derived?

I do a lot of merging. The merged file name is what it is, so i simply rename it after the merge. Often it is the same name as one of the individual names, so I just copy that name into clipboard and paste that in to name of merged file. Then I delete the individual files.

The merged filename “eStatement_Dec” is a truncated filename for the below 3 files, whether I merge in DT or DTTG.

I have a Smart Rule to auto tag, rename and file the merged pdf file. So, trying to understand how the merged pdf filename is derived. Or maybe I just follow what you do to rename the merged file.

It’s not truncated, it’s like a common denominator. What would you expect as a filename in this case?

  • eStatement_Dec2024

The latter seems to me to be the most sensible thing to do, though. I have no idea why DTTG chops off all digits instead of preserving everything that the filenames have in common.

Yes, I expect the latter too. Anyhow, I simply rename it after the merge now, instead of guessing how DT or DTTG behave.
