I would like to be able to sort the records by any item of metadata in DTTG 4, as well as show selective metadata with the record list in DTTG 4.
The request is noted but that’s also a far larger ask than you imagine. Do realize DEVONthink To Go isn’t intended to full mimic DEVONthink. The mobile experience is distinct from the desktop one, as is the interface and form factor.
I understand what you are saying, but I also think it is important for you to understand how your customers use your product. DT 3 introduced metadata. I have databases with chronological notes (using the date metadata), with descriptive titles in the name. I sort these by date. I can’t really use these notes on mobile. I know I can put the date in the title. That was also a pre-metadata solution. Thank you again.
You’re welcome.
We do understand a great deal about how people use our products. However, just that knowledge doesn’t overcome certain limitations imposed by the technologies, both hardware and software.
Consider Apple’s Mail application. On the desktop, it’s not only very easy to create emails with attachments, CC and BCC, etc. but also to automate it in powerful ways. But Apple Mail on mobile is essentially an email receiver and light reader, limited by software and hardware. DEVONthink To Go 4 is certainly more powerful the mobile Mail but also faces specific limitations.
And don’t forget, the difference in form-factor between an iPad and iPhone is enormous compared to the fairly nominal difference between a 13.3" MacBook and a MacBook Pro. Even an iMac is essentially the same, just run at higher resolutions. Designing complex interfaces that work on all mobile devices is not a simple thing to accomplish.
