Minor annoyance: <esc> in search field closes expanded groups/databases

I believe this is new behaviour with DT4 (4.0.2 in use here), as I have performed this action for many years, but it’s only now that it’s really caught my eye. I may be wrong, however!

Issue: I have several databases open at once. Within those databases I have various groups expanded so that I can see sub-groups, as well as smart groups like “All Images” or “All PDF documents”.

If I now hit command-f to enter the search box, and type something, and then hit all expanded groups will now close up.

The databases themselves are “open” of course, it’s just that all of the little triangles which indicate that something has content a level deeper flip and hide those levels.

100% repeatable here, doesn’t seem to matter if I hit return for my search first or not.

I have “Retain View” enabled. I have tried disabling and re-enabling, no impact on this.

It would be nice if this didn’t happen, or, if it’s meant to happen, have it be controlled by “retain view” or some other toggle, if possible!

Really Command-F or Command-Option-F? A screenshot before/after pressing Escape would be useful (e.g. via PM).

You’re right (obviously) - I use Keyboard Maestro and have Command-F mapped to Edit → Find → In Database.

I had to do that at some point in the past, not sure if there was a change in DT over the years, or if it was simply that my muscle-memory for wanting to “find” things didn’t want a third key.

As I’m technically actually “finding in a database” perhaps it’s expected that all of the other open databases will collapse. I still think there’s merit to NOT doing that, however. To have the scope limit to the current database makes sense, but to close expanded databases/groups may not be necessary.

Let me know if you’d still like a screenshot!

A screenshot of the window before/after pressing Escape plus one of Settings > General > Interface would be still useful as I don’t see this behaviour over here.
