I bought a new ARM Macbook – to retire my Intel MacBook.
What’s the best way to migrate? Specifically:
- How to migrate the databases? Can I just rebuild via the sync stores? (All DBs are synced via Dropbox sync stores and I have installed Dropbox on the new laptop already.)
- How to migrate the license? I have only two seats; one for my desktop, one for my laptop. (Devonthink does not need to continue to work on the old Macbook anymore.)
Many thanks for any pointers!
This has been discussed here before. Also, there is this with the difference being the directories are now devonthink not DEVONthink 3…

Yes it is possible, but do not confuse syncing with a backup. It is not a backup. Also, one of the first things you should be doing on your new Mac is getting your primary local backups set up and running.

You don’t need Dropbox installed on the machine for DEVONthink to work with it.
Thanks. The blog post is great.
Anything to do with the licence? Do I have to “de-register” the old Mac?
I suggest that you avail yourself of the search function here (the looking glass to the right of the globe in the row of the top icons). Your questions have been answered many times already in the forum, no need to repeat all that.

Thank you for the details - and for your patience! Much appreciated.
You’re welcome. Have fun with the new Mac!
Thanks. Having fun already. Nice and snappy. (I’m even considering running Ollama on it and connecting DEVONthink on my (slower) M2 Mac Mini to it.)
