My first project - buying a Christmas tree (organizing advice)

I just installed DEVONthink today. I have some screenshots from various websites, and would like to store everything properly. I know there is a TON of flexibility, but I would like to get a clean start and build a solid foundation.

  1. Long term, I would like to see these when I go into a PRICING “folder”. All the historical screenshots and web archives with Black Friday deals and instagram ads that I considered purchasing.
  2. I would also like to filter/find everything Christmas tree or Black Friday under that “folder”
  3. Short term, I would like these to be a part of a SHOPPING “folder”, stuff that I am actively shopping for, grouped together by Christmas tree and I will be adding notes about shipping charges from each of the vendors.

With so many grouping and tagging and labeling and keywords and AI and everything else, I just want a solid procedure that I can do with other projects and areas of life.

Thank you, I’m looking forward to building a great system!

Welcome @evernote.refugee

I recommend you do a little reading in the Getting Started section of the built-in Help and manual. Building Your Database should give you some useful insights.

  • You’ve already defined two groups: Pricing and Shopping. So start there. Create those two groups in your database.

  • It also sounds like you’ve defined two tags: Christmas tree and Black Friday. Add a document to you database. With it selected, type in the tag in several places, including: the Tags bar at the bottom of the window, in the Tags section of the Tools > Inspectors > Generic info inspector or Tools > Get Info popover. If you start to type an existing tag, you will see it in autocompletion results.
