I do not know hether this is the proper group to discuss my subject.
The following happens over and over again.
I regularly receive analyses of the stock market. These are provided in the web. I use Safari to open the links. I copy the headline and choose “Export as PDF…” from the File menu. As I have chosen my DT Inbox as my “File download location” in Safari’s settings the respective article or analysis shows up as a PDF+Text file in my Inbox.
The mysterious thing is every time the system creates a new folder with the name of a folder which I had shared on the internet a month ago.The initially shared folder has found its way into my DB-Folder-system shortly after sharing it.
Does anybody have an idea how I can solve this nonsense? I don’t know whether it is a bug, whether it is a wrong setting, … But basically the Safari command “Export as PDF…” generates two items: the PDF with the proper content and the damned folder
Have you checked your smart rules? Could be one is being triggered when a PDF is imported and creating the directory?
Did you check whether there’s a folder in DEVONthink’s inbox folder (~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/Inbox
)?
I have not defined any smart rules.
Funny Thing: Under Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support I don’t even find a directory DEVONthink 3.
Read carefully:
That is not the same as /Library/Application Support/DEVONthink3
OK. Where/how do I find: “~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/Inbox” ?
The ~/
is shorthand for your user directory. There is both a system-wide /Library
, and a ~/Library
for each account on a mac. No ~
refers to the root (system-wide) directory.
Thanx, that is taking care of DUMMIES like me. I have a faint memory that there were more than one library. OK.
Yes I there is a folder with the same name as the one which always pops up again.
The content of this folder is not really relevant for me. At least it contains in sub-sub-directory only some .tmp files. As I have stored the content of the original folder already in a different DT data base I assume that I can just delete this folder. OK?
I removed the folder from the ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/Inbox folder. This did the trick.
Thanx to all of you.
Good you got it sorted out
PS: try searching the forum. This turns up a lot of relevant results: Search results for 'Inbox empty folder #devonthink ’ - DEVONtechnologies Community
For example: Deleted group name keeps coming back
PPS: the Finder has a useful “Go to…” command (Command-Shift-G) where you can just paste a path to go there.
