Navigating search results items list and in-page results

Hello!

I know there are shortcuts to jump to the view pane and inspector panes (cf Using keyboard to focus on search results - #3 by troejgaard), yet I wish for a very effective keyboard navigation scheme when in search mode, something like: using up+down arrows to go through result items, and left+right to navigate search occurences in each item.

This would allow to visually scan search results and their in-document occurences without leaving the keyboard, with a single hand.

Thank you for the suggestion! Due to your request I just noticed an issue of the Go To > First/Previous/Next/Last Document commands if a search is visible as these commands could be useful otherwise in your case :wink:

Actually, my wish has come true, at least in DT 4.2.2:

when having performed a search, one can easily:

  • use UP/DOWN ARROWS to navigate the results list
  • use (SHIFT-)CMD+G to navigate the search inspector (CMD+F to open it first)
    • maybe CMD+G could open the inspector, if not already the case?

There’s an option to automatically open the Search inspector after a toolbar search, see Settings > General > General. Alternatively you could use the shortcut Ctrl-U.
