It seems that ABBYY are very much prone to declaring “End of LIfe” on their software. I am not sure how ABBYY Finereader is integrated into DEVONthink Pro, but I am hoping my Scansnap built in OCR will take over.
It’s not Finereader that is integrated but the Abbyy library.
Regardless: You should provide more details on your situation, at least the versions of DT and macOS you are running.
Have you found a solution? I think if ABBYY Finereader has stopped working, then Devon have some responsibility to find out what happened and let us know. I get the ‘Couldn’t setup OCR Process’ for every document I scan and it’s very irritating. A solution would be brilliant.

Well, I have an old Intel Mac which I use just for scanning using Scansnap which then feeds into DEVONthink 2.7.6. My usual machine is more up to date (an M1 Powerbook) but it would be quite a hassle to move the DEVONthink database over to it. Is there any way to stop the ‘Couldn’t setup OCR Process’ message from appearing with each document I scan? OCR is pretty essential for using a DEVONthink database. How is it achieved with more modern installs?
You could disable the option to make incoming scans searchable in Preferences > OCR
The current version of DEVONthink is 4.2.1 and requires macOS 13.5 or later. DEVONthink 2.7.6 is almost 12 years old.
Installing DT3, importing the database, closing DT3. I guess. Than installing and licensing DT4. But I’m sure the DEVONtechnology guys and gals can explain the process better.
It just works. There seems to be some internal limitation as to how many pages per time unit one can OCR, but I’ve never reached that.
I’d keep software that is important to me up to date.

OK, I have found a solution (at least for me). I turned off DEVONthink’s in-application OCR using the Preferences, and instead asked my scanner software (Scansnap Manager) to carry out the OCR operation prior to sending the PDFs to DEVONthink. If you have a Scansnap document scanner, the OCR option is in the Scansnap Manager Settings under the File option tab.
