OCR / pdf conversion no longer working since macOS ventura

Hi DT support team,

since I’m updated to macOS ventura, OCR and pdf conversion is no longer working (see screenshot). I’m able to to it manually by converting 1st to pdf paginated and 2nd to pdf + text but I don’t want to do this for hundreds of documents that are now “pdf document” only :frowning:

DT has full access to the entire disk as well as the DTOCRHelper.app

any idea on this topic?

best regards and thanks a lot

Which version of DEVONthink do you actually use? Intel or M1/M2 Mac?

And where are the PDFs coming from, e.g., are you scanning them?

macos, M1

brother ADS 2800W …

And the version of DEVONthink & macOS?

macOS Ventura 13.2.1.
DT 3.9.

Are you scanning with the Brother software?

no, simply with the document scanner itself => Scan to NetworkFolder

Try scanning in DEVONthink’s View > Import sidebar or Apple’s Image Capture application.

DT > View > Import sidebar works fine. Result is pdf+text.

This is a known issue with the dates coming from the output of the Brother software. They are incompatible with the ABBYY OCR engine in DEVONthink. This has been reported but it’s up to ABBYY to address the issue.

We suggest scanning within DEVONthink or using Apple’s Image Capture application in the interim. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

really strange. I changed nothing on scanner side. Only the version of MacOS.

I’m going to use pdfscanner.app as I’m able to use it in automator for folder-actions. So my workflow stays without including manual steps.

thanks for your support!

You’re welcome
