OCR suddenly much slower after Sequoia

Hi all, don’t know if it’s happening to others, but after installing Sequoia a few days ago, OCR is very slow, for example when converting a png to pdf. It used to be quite fast, let’s say 1 second for a lightly texted png, now it’s 5-10 seconds.

Could it be something with ABBYY not happy with Sequoia?

tx for any insight!

Mike

  • What are your OCR settings?
  • Is this a single or multi-page document?
  • Is this OCR while scanning in DEVONthink or OCR on a file imported from a third-party app?

May I ask why you upgraded so soon?
We recommend waiting for the first, or better, the second point release.

Hi JIm!

Settings: To searchable PDF/Move to Trash/Enter metadata/Compress PDF/resolution as source/Deskew/Page Orientation/not using Dictionary/ Primary English/2ndary German, Portuguese, Spanish

Now to your questions - Why did I upgrade so soon? The answer is clear: I’m foolish  - and drank the Apple coolaid ha ha. Shouldna, I know.

tx!

  • And are these your own scans?
    • If so, what resolution did you scan with?

What did you find compelling enough to upgrade? I didn’t see any features worth the risk, though obviously I have to upgrade before I would personally.

Jim, these are conversions to pdf of iPhone screen captures mostly. Not sure what the iPhone res is, I know it’s high.

Sequoia: I wanted to use the window magnets (my previous apps were too flaky), notes transcription (quite helpful) and the iPhone mirroring.
