Opening documents through Item Links

I distinctly remember having DT open external links to its own items (via the x-devonthink-item URL) by revealing and selecting the file in its group tree and displaying it in the bottom viewer pane, without opening it in a new DT window (which is what it does by default).

I’ve reinstalled DT and for the life of me I can’t find this setting anywhere. Gone through the Preferences three times already. Did I dream?

I don’t understand this statement. How is the link “external” to DT if it points to an item in DT? And where exactly/who do you “open” these links? What are your preferences?

Either the function is there, then it won’t disappear suddenly. Or it is not there, then it will not suddenly appear by reinstalling. It is very improbable that reinstalling software solves any problem with that software. In general, just a waste of time and bandwidth.

I did not imply the function had disappeared, I am merely asking how to enable it. I am referring to opening DT items via a the Item Link URL (‘x-DEVONthink-item’).

I posted the part of the settings that I suppose might be relevant in this context. What are your settings? And how/from where are you trying to open the document? Safari? Pages? Obsidian?

I’m opening DT items from Obsidian. Settings same as yours. The item (PDF) opens in its own window instead of being selected and displayed in the bottom Preview pane (which I remember it used to do).

Item links are pretty well documented. See Automation > Item Links in the manual or the built-in Help. Or you could try searching the forum.

You are not looking for a setting, but the reveal parameter.

For what reason?

Unrelated. Computer failure. Thanks @troejgaard for the “reveal” parameter, but IIRC I did not have to add it to the links I’m using. Could I have changed something that made DT use “reveal” by default?

No, because it has never been a default option. Except for document-specific item links, they don’t have any URL parameters, and none of them have ever been ?reveal=1.

I’m not sure I understand. All the DT links I use are document-specific. Each of them links to a specific PDF. If add ?reveal=1 as suggested, they are revealed and displayed in the bottom Preview pane, as I’d like them to. But I’ve never had to add ?reveal=1 to them before. Perhaps I’m mistaken, and they were never revealed by default, even before I reinstalled.
