Per-document AI chats in a single window on Mac

Hi, I’d like to keep a separate AI conversation for each document while working in a single DEVONthink window on Mac.

For example, I chat about document A, select document B and have a separate conversation, then return to A and automatically see and continue A’s previous chat.

Is there an existing setting or workflow that enables this without opening separate windows or manually selecting recent chats?

I understand DEVONthink To Go supports chats attached to individual documents. If this isn’t currently available on Mac, could it be considered as a feature request? Has anything been announced about bringing this behavior to the Mac version?

Recent chats are currently the only option.

Initially I also assumed that the chat in the inspector is specific to the document, whereas the chat in the menu bar of DTP is a general one. But I was wrong. What is the idea behind this?

There’s only one inspector in windows but the stand-alone graph, chat & info inspectors can be detached and used concurrently.

Is there any plan to give this option to us?

Thanks! It would be really helpful if we could keep the AI chat history as part of the document. That knowledge is also important to preserve.

A chat and a document are not necessarily associated. There might be no document at all selected or the selection might change during the conversation or multiple documents are selected. Or the document just happens to be selected but is irrelevant.

For important knowledge it’s definitely recommended to save the conversation. Anyway, the next release will simply open the most recent chat for the current document.

Sometimes that is true as an archive.

But there are also times when an ongoing conversation is preferred - thus it is desirable to be able to save a chat with context preserved. The ability to quickly/easily resume a conversation with all past context understood is really helpful.

Simple examples would be trip planning or shopping for a new house or planning a long summer trip. These tasks can take months and it is really nice to be able to go back to a chat and have the past context preserved.

Yes this can also be done by saving past chats and then referencing those documents in a new chat. It’s a lot simpler thoough to just quickly bring up the chat and resume where you last left it.
