Perennial Question

Last discussion that I could see on this was '16 – forgive me if I missed something. Indexing vs. Importing. I understand the caveat about Devon Think not being a finder replacement – but the fact is that the temptation arises because a) the DT search function makes finder/spotlight search seem, er, primitive, and b) it is immeasurably easier to move/manage files with DT. So my question is, does DT3 lend itself any more to this use than DTPO, or do all the same trade offs remain? Thanks as always - JM

If all you want to do is use indexing as a way to search files, DT3 works fine. That is one of the best arguments for indexing.

But if you want to use indexing as a way to move files, that opens up a bunch of potential gotchas.

This is all discussed in the outstanding “DEVONthink Handbook” and in this forum very often and recently. Take a look at the Handbook first. In the end, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish–not limited to either/or/both.
