Purpose Of Cross Linked Script?

What is the purpose of the “Cross Linked Text” script?
Does it:

Link selected text to a document internal to Devonthink
Link selected text to a document external to Devonthink

The script links selected text in a document to that document. What’s the value of that? Such links do nothing, AFAICT.
