"QUITTING DEVONTHINK Completing synchronization" forever? (DevonThink 4)

New iMac, updated to DEVONthink 4.

When I QUIT DEVONthink, I get the “QUITTING DEVONthink Completing synchronization…” line waving back and forth in the lower left. It does not seem to want to stop.

I can open DEVONthink 4 on my MacBook Air and it closes normally. I do not know if my updates are maintained, however.

Any help?

What are your Sync settings?

PS: Did you read this…

Let me apologize ahead of time for being DEVONthink clumsy - - it’s a program that I’ve had for a loooong time, but still seem to get bewildered.

My goal is to use DEVONthink 4 Beta on all devices (iMac and MacBook Air, basically). I’ve left the “old” DEVONthink behind.

I just did a test where I created a file in a library on my laptop DEVONthink, closed it, and opened my desktop (iMac) DEVONthink - the new file appeared there. Amazing.

When I did the COMPRESS thing with DEVONthink 3, it made a compressed version, but the uncompressed DEVONthink 3 remained. SHOULD I TRASH BOTH?

Also, I see DEVONagent Pro on my iMac and DEVONagent Pro and DEVONagent Lite on my Macbook Pro. Do I ditch them the same way?

No worries!

No. Trash the DEVONthink 3 application. The ZIP is there in case you need to revert back to version 3 as noted in my forum post. And again, version 4 is in beta, so be aware of the choice you’re making.

No. They are completely unrelated applications so there’s absolutely no need to remove them.

Yes, that’s how sync should work provided both devices are set up to sync with the same location or directly device-to-device with a Bonjour sync.

That is pretty amazing.
I have to admit, I have NO IDEA how they are synching. But they seem to be.

Only issue now is when I close DEVONthink on my desktop iMac, I get the “Quitting DEVONthink - Completing synchronization” thing I described before, and it won’t go away.

(I’m fairly sure I skipped an obvious step in there somewhere…)

What is reported in Window > Log?

I’m back! Sorry - lost you for a moment (my son has Down Syndrome and ADHD, and he “had a question”)

Window > Log shows nothing on desktop as the DevonTnink app continues to say…

"
Quitting DEVONthink completing sychronization"

(With a line beneath it going back and forth)

Laptop version seems happy to open and close at will.

No worries!
Open a support ticket from the problematic Mac.

Now the desktop DEVONthink says “uploading items to Dropbox” in lower left - the Dropbox finally “let them in”?

More oddness. I replied to the email you sent me - it got sent back with this message:

We’re sorry, but your email message to [“community@devontechnologies.com”] (titled Re: [DEVONtechnologies Community] [DEVONthink] “QUITTING DEVONthink Completing synchronization” forever? (DEVONthink 4)) didn’t work.

Here are some things to check:

  • Do you use more than one email address? Did you reply from a different email address than the one you originally used? Email replies require that you use the same email address when replying.

  • Did your email software properly use the Reply-To: email address when replying? Unfortunately, some email software incorrectly sends replies to the From: address, which won’t work.

  • Was the Message-ID header in the email modified? The Message-ID must be consistent and unchanged.

By the way, if we lived in proximity to each other, I’d already owe you dinner and a drink or six for your patience.

haha!
You should be emailing support@devontechnologies.com.

UPDATE: No longer says " “uploading items to Dropbox” in lower left"

Going to QUIT DEVONthink and see how it acts.

You’re not syncing directly between your Macs. Sync data has to be uploaded to the remote server and downloaded on the other Mac and vice versa.

SUCCESSFUL CLOSE

It says it is in “Macintosh HD > Users > [my name] > Databases > nameofdatabase.dtBase2”

Does that seem the way it should go? I think that means it’s synched even though we are NOT on Dropbox.

I need a drink …
