Removing folder as potential destination from See Also & Classify

I was thinking that by tickmarking exclude from See Also on a folder property, but the folder keeps popping up as a potential destination. What is supposed to be happening ?

Documentation says:

Exclude From…: These checkboxes allow you to exclude an item from being used in various ways. For example, you can exclude temporary groups from classification to increase the accuracy of the built-in artificial intelligence. You can exclude an item from these operations:

Classification: When enabled on a group, this will keep DEVONthink from suggesting or using the group as a possible filing location.
See Also: When enabled on any file, DEVONthink will not include it as an item potentially related to the current file.

Exactly what you’re seeing.
Read it again as well as your statement: “… tickmarking See Also on a folder property…”.

As stated in the documentation for See Also: “When enabled on any file…”. A group is not a file.
And Classification is also clear: “When enabled on a group…”.

The goal is: I do not want to see a certain ‘Group’ being proposed as a destination for auto-classification. Is this possible ?

Yes, just exclude the group from classification via the Info > Generic inspector.

Doesn’t seem to work … the folder clearly appears in See Also & Classify even though it’s flagged to be excluded. Should I treat this as a bug and investigate ?

I just tried this and it seems to work as expected actually. A screenshot of the Info > Generic inspector showing the exclusions of this group and screenshot of the See Also & Classify inspector showing the results might be useful.

Here I am with more feedback. What I have determined is that ticking exclude from on a parent group doesn’t affect all subgroups, so you have to go tick exclude from see also and classify to all of the subgroups for it to work. Intentional ? I am happy nonetheless. I’ve begun to really appreciate the ‘Think’ part of DevonThink!

This is currently intended as items might have multiple parent groups/tags using different exclusion settings.

I see there’s an exclude from classification property in DEVONthink’s scripting dictionary, which you could use for bulk operations.
