Replace all replicants?

I encountered a situation this past week where I had a document (PDF) that was replicated in several different locations. I had to replace that document with an updated version, but I could not edit the original document. I wanted to just “swap” the document with the new one and keep all the replications intact throughout my database, but I could not figure out how to do that without just manually re-replicating it in all the various locations. I’d like to know if there is a way to do that which I missed, or if it can be achieved through a script that someone has? Any suggestions for this circumstance would be appreciated. Thanks.

How often would you really expect to do this kind of replacement?

No idea. Not a lot, but just wondering if there was already a solution for it.

First request I can recall and nothing built-in.

Show the file that you want to replace in the Finder (see Data > Show in Finder). Then just overwrite this file with the new one.

WARNING: It’s important that the filename and extension do not change.

In the end this replacement is basically like external editing and DEVONthink should automatically update its index after receiving the related filesystem events.

Thanks Christian, that’s great! I will do so in the future.
