[RESOLVED] Scripts for Folder Actions

Dear,

I am currently playing around with version 4. To do so, I followed the guidance to compress the DT3 program.
Unfortunately, the folder actions scripts are not available anymore. The scripts do not shine up via the services menu. However, the folder “Folder Action Scripts” is available in the user/Library/Scripts folder. Also copying the scripts inside this folder to a new folder user/Library/Scripts/Applications/DEVONthink is not changing anything.

Since I want to make use of the Import script to import the files from a network folder (this is where my scanner places the files), this would really facilitate my use case.

Thank you for your support.
Regards

Philip

Post a screen capture of what you’re referring to. Compressing DEVONthink 3 would have no effect on whether the folder actions were available or not.

@BLUEFROG : Thank you for your support. However, just one question - prior to debugging (and consequently causing effort) this, is this still the way to go?

I am asking, as most of the corresponding threads are referring to DT2 and yesterday night, I even found a five year old post from @cgrunenberg , stating that it would be better to use (for a comparable use case) an indexed folder and smart rules to further work with the files in question.

Thank you!

Folder actions are pretty much deprecated. They work, but with DT you’d rather use a smart rule and an indexed folder.

Here’s what I do:

  • Scans folder on a NAS
  • mounted via SMB on my Mac
  • indexed in DT’s inbox
  • watched by a smart rule:
    • “On import”, the file is moved into the database
    • it is then OCRd
    • and moved into the global inbox

Straight forward, and it has the advantage that everything is in one place. You do not have to remember which folder action was attached to which folder…

Perfect - thank you.
From my perspective no more need to deal with the initial question. :vulcan_salute:
