Rudimentary question re: Japanese search

Please forgive a basic question from a newbie.

I just imported a series of PDF files in Japanese (all already OCR’ed) into my inbox. I then search for a given term in Japanese, and get few if any results. If I then open one of the PDFs and “find” for the same term, it finds it without fail. Is there any way to get the global search to find the terms with the same accuracy?

Thanks!

DEVONthink’s search procedure expects “words” to be separated by spaces or punctuation marks.

If there’s not a space between characters, try using the asterisk wildcard symbol before and after the character.

Thank you for responding, Bill.

I saw this in the help section, and tried both asterisk and tilde. Neither had any effect in the accuracy of the search.

Any other thoughts?
