Unfortunately, Safari (18.6 on MacOS 13.7) refuses to go to any DEVONtech webpage (Products, Useraccount, Forum), because it can’t establish a secure connection. I can write this post with Chrome only. How to go back to Safari with DEVONtechnologies?
Install a root certificate to visit a webpage? WTF
I don’t want to start of what dome could do to you when you install malicious root certificate. Your System would validate everything the bad boy would want to…
You install root certificates with almost every new release of macOS. How else would the root certificates needed by Safari to verify server certs arrive on your machine?
In this particular case (which has already been discussed thoroughly, btw), DEVONtechnology switched their certificate provider to one that older Apple OSs do not include. So, people who insist on using older macOS versions and Safari will have to install the missing root certificate.
If they do not want to do that, they have to
use another browser which comes with its own certificate store
or upgrade their OS.
Or they can try to connect to DEVONtech servers with HTTP instead of HTTPS. Which is not necessarily safe, of course.
Yes, trusted ones and they come with the browser but you don’t download them from somewhere and install them.
But of course, old Hardware. When you don’t receive Security Updates anymore you can as well start installing root certificates yourself… Or just use at least a recent browser which ships them and has the latest security patches…
The recommendation should be keep using Chrome or Firefox for Browsing.
