ScanSnap Home photo scanning in 4 Beta 2

Hello DEVONthink community,

I’ve run into a change after moving from DEVONthink 4.0 beta 1 to 4.0 beta 2:

  • Scanner & Workflow

    • Using a Fujitsu ScanSnap Home profile dedicated to scanning pre-digital photos.
    • Under 4.0 beta 1, images landed as standalone JPEGs in my DEVONthink Inbox.
    • After upgrading to 4.0 beta 2, those same scans now arrive as PDFs.
  • Steps Taken so Far

    1. Reviewed DEVONthink preferences and plist flags for any import-format options.
    2. Confirmed ScanSnap Home continues to output JPEGs.
    3. Restarted both ScanSnap Home and DEVONthink.
  • Temporary Workaround Disabled the direct-to-DEVONthink integration and now drag JPEGs into the Inbox manually.

Anybody else ran into this?

Welcome @alexg0
What is set in DEVONthink’s Settings > OCR?

Convert Incoming Scans: To searchable PDF.

I changed it to do nothing and it returned to prior behavior. Thanks @BLUEFROG! Still feels like regression as I would only expect to convert PDFs not JPGs.

Images have always been the format to convert to searchable PDF as OCR was developed specifically to convert raster images to PDF. Conversion of PDF to searchable PDF came much later in the history of OCR.

Strange that this worked before.

I have no data on that and are you certain you previously didn’t have the OCR setting set to No Action ?
