I just upgraded to the new beta 4. I followed the instructions for adding a Scansnap scanner by creating a profile in the Scansnap home app. When I scan a document using that profile it makes two copies in the inbox. Any thoughts on why it is doing this?
A screenshot of this profile would be useful.
That is quite strange. I have this problem with the new version of Receipts (Spaces) app but not with DTP 3.x.
Also with a ScanSnap?
What version of ScanSnap Home are you running?
Using Scansnap Home 2.23.1
What path are you saving to?
Yes a scansnap IX1600. Software version 2.23.1.
It works well with DTP 3.x.
I could try with version 4 if you like.
If you would, we’d appreciate it
In the ScanSnap profile, you should not be saving the scans into the Global Inbox. You should send it to ~/Pictures or the default save location in the Documents folder.
I am curious as to why the Global Inbox should not be used as destnation. I have been using it for years in exactly this configuration without any problems.
OK, what I did: scan a document with DTP 3 Scansanp profile: only one file added. Then exactly the same with DTP4 – after changing the destination application – only one file added. So it works correctly with my ScanSnap IX1600 and DTP 3 and 4.
Just to check, I scanned a receipt with Receipts Space App: 2 copies on the same file added. I contacted their support but until now they didn’t find the reason.
In the “DEVONthink Manual”, 3.9.8 version, page 73, it says:
Note: In the settings for the scanning application you’re using, it is best to leave the default location for the output path, often ~/Pictures. Do not set the path to DEVONthink’s Global Inbox, as this can lead to errors when DEVONthink tries to import a scan that is not completed yet.
I’ve noticed if I create a situation where an app saves the same file twice to the inbox, the inbox will end up with two copies. It’s not something I’ve ever worried about. Unlike per-database inboxes, you can’t modify anything in the global inbox. The re-write creates a second copy.
Thanks, just another RTFM .
Also, do you have the ScanSnap set to do OCR as well? Click the Option button next to File Format.
I changed the folder to another location rather than the global inbox. Should I set Scansnap to OCR the document as well or turn that feature off?
I changed the folder to another location rather than the global inbox.
And did the behavior in DEVONthink change?
Should I set Scansnap to OCR the document as well or turn that feature off?
Leave this alone until you’ve answered the question about. Otherwise, you’re changing two variables at once.
If the behavior doesn’t change, make sure both applications are not doing OCR on the same scan.
