I have a PDF document in my inbox (kind is shown as PDF+Text) and it has all index words as sent by my scanner, i.e. is fully searchable.
Then I put an imprint on the document.
Now all index words are gone (except the words from the imprint itself).
Running 4.1.1.
Is this a bug are a feature?
Additonal information:
The search words are still accessible in Acrobat, even if the documents is imprinted.
My docs imprinted before 17.11.2025 are fine, i.e. they have all search words even if imprinted. Maybe this is something that came with 4.1.1 and was not in 4.1, but I cannot be sure.
Re-OCR-ing the doc from within DT restores all search words.
We don’t offer support specific to Paperstream. That would be a question for their support team. Also, you should not be scanning directly into DEVONthink’s Global Inbox, especially if you’re using external OCR.
I was scared you would answer like this. Too bad. I am not scanning directly into the inbox from the scanner, this is a separate step.
And given previous experiences I had with their support, I need to change my workflow to either avoid stamping or re-OCR all docs after stamping.
Just in case you still are curious, here is a document I scanned before imprinting. The said effect is seen in the second doc “copy”.
It looks like it’s specific to Pagestream’s output or possibly a PDF 1.4 conversion to 1.3 when the document is resaved. Development (@aedwards) will have to look at this after the holiday season.
Imprinting does not alter the text layer of the PDF however there does appear to be an issue or incompatibility with Apple’s PDFKit when saving the changes. Opening your pre Imprint PDF in the Preview app and exporting as PDF has the same effect. We will need to investigate this further to see if we can find a workaround.
