Have you chaps thought about applying the versatile DEVONtechnology to semantic data (e.g. OWL/RDF knowledge bases)? It seems ideally suited to large knowledge bases and applying inference to them.
We’ve already thought about this (as a guy from the W3C contacted us) but it’s actually an almost completely different approach. Most of the technology’s potential is currently not used as average computers are not powerful enough. But as soon as 64-bit computing is common and more CPU power is available, things should become quite interesting.
