Sending mail to DevonThink not working with macOS Sonoma and DVTP 3.9.3

Hi, I have set a rule that exports all my emails from Apple Mail to DT3 using Apple scripts. If I want to manually move an email, I first move it to Yoink, then to DT3, and it works too.

Are you using our mail rule scripts?
Yoink is a cool utility (and the developer is a super nice guy!) but note you can also drag directly to the database or to the Finder then into DEVONthink as well.

  • Drag and drop to what?
    • If to the dock icon, that’s not supported. See the previous two replies in this thread.
  1. Drag and drop does not work: Logs: ā€œ03/10/2023, 17:27:22: Apple Mail Import of 1 messages failed.ā€ with all emails, but ā€œthrough yoinkā€ it works.
  2. mail rule - add messages to DEVONthink.

Drag and drop to where?

from Apple Mail to DT3>inbox

I’m seeing no such issue in Sonoma.
A screencap of what you’re dragging to would be useful.

is it ok?

Slightly off topic - to drag/drop from DT3 to some apps, i.e. Outlook web email, Yoink is currently required - it used to work directly from DT3 to Outlook web email but that stopped working a while back.

et al:
Make sure you check Sonoma’s System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation. If you drag and drop emails from Apple Mail into the sidebar’s Inbox alias, the OS may prompt you to okay the automation…

Make sure DEVONthink’s requests are allowed.
Also note, the OS could revoke this access on its own.

hmmm, all settings are checked.

I’d suggest doing a Mailbox > Rebuild in Apple Mail and see if that resolves it.

I’ve been following this thread for awhile, and continue to have problems getting emails into DEVONthink Pro. I’m using Sonoma 14.1.1 on my Mac Studio with Apple M1 Max, and DEVONthink Pro 3.9.4. When I first upgraded to Sonoma 14, the Cntl-Opt-Cmd-M key combo seemed to work for a bit (I heard the little beep and the email was transferred into my Inbox in DEVONthink Pro. But within a short time, that keyboard combo stopped working. However, if I dragged the email into the menu bar icon, I got a drop down menu and could continue dragging that email down into my DEVONthink Pro Inbox. Then THAT trick stopped working. I read here in the Forums that some people were saying you could drag the email down onto the DEVONthink Pro DOCK icon, but that never worked for me. I also followed Blue Frog’s suggestion of going into System Settings > Privacy and Security > Automation > DEVONthink 3 and made sure Finder item was turned on, that that might help. It didn’t, not even after I also did a Mailbox Rebuild in Mail. It seems the ONLY way I can get an email from Mail into DEVONthink Pro now is to open the email in Mail, then send the email to Print, but choose the Send PDF to DEVONthink 3. Kind of clunky, but it works – for now. Is there anything new I can try??

Is DEVONthink 3 also allowed to automate Mail? That’s much more important in this case.

Yes, that was on as well. Still no joy!

And a machine reboot?

I did ANOTHER reboot (for an unrelated reason), and now dragging an email up to the DEVONthink Pro menu icon and dropping it over the Inboxes entry in the drop down menu seems to be working again. Fingers crossed! (I did the same thing just now on my MacBook Air 15" model, and it worked there too).

Glad to hear it!

Hi. I have severals issues with importing mail from Apple Mail.

1- Use of rules and DVTP 3.9.4 : sometimes it imports mails sometimes not.
2- Drag’n’Drop to sorter… I have an error message in Log console → Import of n messages failed. Sometimes it works !
3- Drag’n’Drop directly to inbox in DVTP : I have an error message in Log console → Import of n messages failed. Sometimes it works !
4- Try using a hot folder then drag’n’drop mail directly from Apple Mail to this hot folder : It works for all kind of files but not for mails !
5- Drag’n’drop in finder in a temporary folder then drop to DVTP (inbox or group in database) → seems to always work
6- Drag’n’drop to Inbox in finder Favorites → seems to always work

I suspected that grouping mails by conversation in Apple Mail was the cause of my issue but no, same behaviour.

Same result after rebooting my MacBook Pro M1. Rebuild mailbox too.
Config : Sonoma 14.2.1 / DVTP 3.9.4

I would like to have a safe workflow using Apple Mail rules and Devonthink Mail Scripts.
What am I doing wrong ? Help !

Thanks

Just one thing: DT will never import the same message twice. That might be the issue for the ā€œimport of n messages failedā€ message.
