I’ve had DT & DTTG for awhile now but have been too intimidated to figure out where to start so I’m making the effort to dive in. However, I’ve been using DTTG some on occasion to clip websites.
I’ve not yet made any database in either DT or DTTG but I’d like to be able to keep the items saved so far on DTTG. With no database(s) created yet, the items saved so far in DTTG are stored in the Global Inbox.
Is there anything I need to do to ensure this works seamlessly without losing that data or having issues syncing? Is it best to start with DT on Mac first? I’ve been reading through the manual but didn’t come across this particular scenario. Thanks so much in advance!
You’ve done nothing wrong so far While we do advocate creating separate databases, the Global Inbox is a database and many people just use it.
You need to determine what your sync needs are but we generally advocate using a Bonjour sync on your local network. This is a direct-connection sync between your devices with one device (usually a Mac) acting as a server.
Thanks so much for your reply. I guess I should have realized that some database had been created, even if it wasn’t one I explicitly did myself!
I do have a Mac Mini running as a personal server so my plan was to create a database in DT Pro on that and use that as my repository for all my docs, scans, etc… For everyday work, I use an iPad as my primary device. I’m thinking that if I can get the local/Bonjour setup, that’s best as my primary sync with a possible encrypted iCloud as a backup for just when I’m traveling and in case I have issues logging into my home vpn or Remote Desktop to access info.
My worry is that I’d mess something up by having already had data in DTTG and then the data either not sync or get lost. It sounds like I can just start with creating the DTP database then setup the sync from there. (Fingers crossed!)
