Setting up Hierarchical Parent/Child Tags - Some tags appearing under parent as well as on the main list

Hi all

I have a lot of tags. And so in order to make navigation more efficient I am looking to create a hierarchical parent/child tag structure. For example:

Organisations

  • Org1
  • Org2

Clients

  • Client1
  • Client2

In addition to applying tags to individual items, I also apply them to some groups, which in turn automatically tags all items in those groups.

All good, this is how I want it to work.

I am experiencing a strange issue with some of the tags, which are appearing under the parent tag as well as separately in the main parent list. I don’t want this.

Is anyone able to shed some light on why this may be happening? Only some tags, not all.

I have tried dragging and dropping the tags under the parent using the tag list, but it doesn’t appear to resolve it.

I am clearly overlooking something and feeling a bit dumb. Have read the manual and searched the forum.

Appreciate your assistance!

If a non-nested tag already exists, it will also appear outside a tag hierarchy. And no, you shouldn’t have redundant tags. This is discussed in the Getting Started > Tagging > Nested Tags section of the Help.

And more information, and potentially screen captures, would be useful.

Thanks Jim

Suspected as much.

The two instances appear to be the same tag, rather than redundant tags, as the files listed under them are identical.

What’s the easiest way to reset things so that it only appears under the parent?

You’re welcome
Just delete one of the tags. It has no effect on the references items.
