Share Sheet not saving items to DTTG again

Hi there, I have an ongoing issue where about every 6 months, the share sheet functionality breaks.

What breaks? Trying to send an image into DTTG.

  • Select the image
  • Open Share sheet
  • Click on DTTG
  • Dialog opens
  • Change name, or leave default
  • Change location, or leave default
  • Press save
  • Dialog disappears
  • Image never appears in DTTG inbox
  • Repeat many times, same issue.
  • Swipe up to close all apps, same issue.
  • Reboot phone, same issue.

Only a delete, reinstallation of DTTG, and re-syncing will make it work again.

It happened a week ago, so I did the reinstallation dance. I’ve just spent 2 days re-syncing all my databases and lo and behold it has broken again. I’m a bit annoyed about this. DEVONthink and DTTG are wonderful, amazing apps, but when this breaks I lose a big chunk of the functionality.

Other apps in the share sheet respond, it just seems to be DTTG that doesn’t so I don’t know where the issue is - DTTG or iOS.

Does anyone else get this issue?

Hi Jim, yes tried rebooting a few times before getting drastic and doing the delete and reinstall…

Also, iOS and software all up to date.

I’m not a coder, but it feels a bit like this piece of programming in the share sheet is fragile or wonky.

DEVONthink To Go is certainly not the only application that has occasional issues with the Share sheet. In fact, I had two support tickets last week thinking the same as you then respond back with, “Oh wait, I guess I’m seeing that in application X too!”

That being said, if you haven’t updated to DEVONthink To Go 3.8.2 (released today), you should. Not only for the improvements and fixes but because there also was some work related to the Share sheet.

I just updated to 3.8.2

Restarted DTTG - I get the app icon and 5 seconds later the app quit

Rebooted device

Same thing happens

Anyone else having similar issues?

Maybe I need to update to iOS 17.5? Trying that now

Crashes should be reported to our support ticket system.

  1. Go into iOS/iPadOS’ Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data.
  2. Select the most recent .ips file with DEVONthink in the name.
  3. Tap the Share menu button and choose Save to Files.
  4. Attach this file to the ticket.

Works ok here. One other person reported the crash on start here.

I have filed an official issue and am awaiting the next support ticket. We have not seen any crashes on launch in any of the builds, including today’s public release.

iOS 17.5, upgraded to DTTG 3.8.2.

Crashes on launch. Rebooted. Same.

Will follow reporting as above.

Yes I accept it may not be a DTTG issue, but it would be great to identify what the cause is.

It’s become so regular now, that this is the 3rd or 4th time for me in 2 years.
