Since 3.9.11 DEvonthink won't open dtSparse and renames DB to *.sparseimage

Hi @all.

I’m struggling with my DT installation.
Since 3.9.11 I ran in problems when I try to open my DB’s.
On the one hand I see that my encrypted DB’s were renamed to *.sparseimage by DT itself.
Searching the I’net I found some entries where a similar behavior was found several times.

I tried it different options:

  • First of all I copied my DB’s to get a backup.
  • I tried to rename the DB’s to .dtSparse, which didn’t work for me, because DB’s where “always” renamed back to .sparseimage
  • Then I tried to open one of my DB’s via Diskmounter and build a new DB with ending .dtBase2. Now this one works again, but isn’t encrypted anymore.
  • The second one work ones, or twice after renaming it to .dtSparse, but today it behaves like the other and I can’t work with it.
My System Specs are: M1 MBPro with Sequoia 15.5.
Do you have any test/trace options, so I can see more details?

regards, michael

Encrypted databases have to change their extension while they’re open. Quit DEVONthink. Change the extension to .dtSparse. Double-click them to open them in DEVONthink again.

Don’t encrypted databases automatically revert to using the extension .dtSparse when they’re closed?

Yes, under normal circumstances. However, if the app crashes or someone force quits it, it can remain with the .sparseimage extension.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

Many thx for your update.
I got both DB’s running again with changing both to not encrypted ones.
I didn’t find the root cause for the misbehavior. No crash, no quitting the App without closing DB.
Overall it is OK for me.

You’re welcome and I’m glad to hear it’s working well again.
