Smart rule back to OSX Finder

Hello all…

I’m a seasoned, I think, DT user who has been running two databases as “Imported” for many, many years… I would like to create another database for a single project, but would like to run this new one “Indexed”.

All good so far, I have created the db, I am indexing to a folder in Finder, which is working.

I understand, of course, that any annotations I make to PDFs in DT on this new indexed db, such as Imprinter, will not be reflected in Finder; I will just see the original document in Finder, not annotated, but annotated in DT.

I bet you know what’s coming next…?

What I’d like to do is create a smart rule/folder in DT on this indexed db so that when I annotate a pdf in DT, with say Imprinter, that document is copied or moved to a new folder that is then reindexed to Finder, if that’s possible.

I’m not sure where I should start or how to implement it. I’ve had a stab at it with no results.

Any help or advice is warmly appreciated

Dj

I’m not sure how you came to that understanding, but it’s incorrect. DEVONthink uses standard PDF annotation methods, not something proprietary like Zotero or Skim. Annotations made in DEVONthink are saved into the document just as they are when annotating in Preview.

Note the Path field in the inspector in DEVONthink, just above the Finder window. That clearly shows the files is indexed in a group on my desktop.

Yes indeed…. I hang my head in total shame…

No idea what I did, but I did try it this morning and couldn’t see the annotations… This time I did it properly and its fine… Sorry

No worries and shame required! Just the lesson for the day
