Hi there,
I would like to have the option to make DT always attempt to open unknown formats as text and index their content. Here’s my use case for the proposed feature:
I make music as a hobby and have a growing number of project files and presets (basically a specific configuration of all the parameters, so that it can be instantly loaded). It recently occurred to me that the text descriptions / comments for many of these files (e.g., my .RPP REAPER project files, .h2p u-he presets and .vitalVital presets) remain human-readable when I open them in a text editor. If only DT could also open these as text files, I’d be able to index my huge number of project and preset files and use DT’s almighty search engine to search across all the notes-to-self I’ve made in my projects and presets. As it currently stands, I cannot search in any of these text blobs I wrote, much less search in a fully indexed database of all of them at once.
I’m not sure if many people will find this proposed feature any useful, but I think it’s safe to say it shouldn’t disrupt anyone’s existing workflow. It should be a neutral addition to most users and a powerful new feature for those who do want to import/index files that DT cannot natively understand. (And hopefully it shouldn’t take too much work to implement it.)
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my request! Have a nice week ahead ![]()
