Some Server issues in 4.2.2

  1. The ToC pane for .epubs in DT Server seems to have broken in 4.2.2; it still shows, but clicking on an entry does nothing, so ePubs are currently unreadable past the cover.

  2. PDFs no longer display in Server on Safari. Mobile Safari shows the first page; desktop Safari shows nothing. Firefox is fine, though.

  3. Shifting to Firefox for Server has uncovered a fantastic (experimental? secret?) feature I can’t find in release notes, and I’m not sure when it was introduced: I see the amazing @aedwards has implemented a navigable ToC pane for PDFs on the lines of the ePub one, but even better (collapsible!). This is absolutely incredible, though it only seems to work for some third-party PDFs; it doesn’t seem to work for Tables of Contents I’ve built myself, whether directly in DT or through export from Pages. Is there a way we can activate it for our own PDFs?

  4. Two minor issues, not new in 4.2.2, but is sufficiently trivial that I haven’t bothered to report them: sorting on the Modified column in Server’s list pane has the chevron the wrong way up for ascending/descending sorts, while sorting by Size seems to sort by some other criterion than size that I haven’t figured out (but includes some grouping by Kind).

Thanks for the feedback, I will look into the issues you have raised.

The PDF display is browser dependant so unfortunately I cannot claim credit for the navigable ToC pane.

A fix will be available soon for Safari not displaying PDF’s, unfortunately Mobile Safari only showing the front page is an issue with Safari on iOS.

Out of interest what version of macOS are you running when trying to view PDF’s on Safari and they are not displaying?

I have fixed the issues you mentioned and also updated the PDF Viewer so that you should see TOC, Thumbnails on all browsers. Viewing PDFs on an iPad should also work better and allow you to access all pages.

Oh, brilliant – thanks so much for sorting all that! The PDF viewer update sounds particularly great; ToC navigation on PDFs in Server is a bit of a dream feature.
