Sorter and Arc Browser?

I’m trying to use sorter to save pdfs of webpages from Arc browser. That is my default browser. I am unfamiliar with activating sorter as the method of saving. I used to use Safari and would always use the browser extension. The Chrome bug that asks for permission every time the extension is activated is what caused me to look into activating sorter directly with a keyboard shortcut.

My problem is that when I activate the sorter keyboard shortcut, sorter pulls from Brave.
Arc is my default browser. When I change my default browser to Safari, sorter pulls from Safari. If I change back to Arc, sorter stays on Safari. Change default to Brave and sorter will start pulling from Brave. Change default to Arc and sorter continues to pull from Brave.

Is this just something I will have to deal with until Arc gets bigger/better or is there something I can do? If not, I will just map something in keyboard maestro to use the Arc extension. Thanks!

The Sorter does not currently know about the Arc browser, so when activated it will select the top most known browser to gather data from, in your case Brave. I will check Arc and see if we can add it in a future update.

May I ask what is appealing enough to make this your daily browser?

That’s a good question. I’ve been a Safari user since I got my first Mac 15 years ago.

I think the main thing I like about Arc is Spaces, accessed through the sidebar. The sidebar is the focal point of the browser, vs the top like most others. Spaces are similar to having another window open but you can pin the tabs you always need open while in those specific spaces. When you navigate to that space, the info you need is ready and waiting. I do promo and publishing in one space, I have another space for music where I have tabs for finding credits and new releases. Here is an overview picture of my spaces to give a better idea. The pic shows them expanded, which is only for management. When you want to access a space, you can keyboard shortcut or click on the bottom of the sidebar. Sure, it sounds similar to bookmarks, but it’s different having only what you need in a specific space.

You can also hide the sidebar giving you a nice full and uncluttered window. There’s a lot of customization available, which I like. The combo of Alfred/Raycast and browser customization is very useful in my workflow.

I can easily add keyboard shortcuts to extensions, which is also an option in Brave but I don’t love Brave overall. This is a big feature that I wished for in Safari and a big reason why I started using Brave. I had a lot of archiving to do and I used the DEVONthink extension in Brave to do that.

I missed a lot of useful info about why Arc is cool but I’m not really a prosthetizer. More info here for those interested.

I will make a keyboard macro adding the return necessary when using the Chrome extension. Thanks for the answer!!

I’ve also moved to Arc as my default browser. It has the best system for managing tab groups of any of the main browser options. In addition, there are a bunch of nice “quality of life” improvements which make Arc a pleasure to use. I support DT adding Arc as something the Sorter recognizes.

there’s a great article on tidbits.com from Adam Engst about Arc.
