Sorting by Kind in DTTG

I have noticed an odd issue with DTTG when sorting by kind within a group. The group has a collection of markdown files - some are sorted into a category Markdown as expected but many are sorted into a category Other. I can’t see any reason for this. The ones sorted into the Other category are standard markdown with no html. The information panel for them shows the kind as Markdown Text. This happens on both the iPhone and iPad using the latest version of DTTG. Is this a bug?

Is the extension of all documents the same?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, looking at the path on the Mac from which they are synced the extension is .md. But after checking more closely I was wrong in saying that both iPhone and iPad have the same problem . There are some that are in Other on the iPad but Markdown on the iPhone.

Can you post one that sorts correctly and one that sorts as Other ?
PM if you don’t want to post publicly.

Most are quite long, for example (ironically) a markdown copy of Brett Terpstra’s ‘Write better Markdown’. However, I have been experimenting, noting that the problematic ones are all very old. So taking Brett’s as a test I changed one thing on the Mac, a header level from 1 to 2, and when it synced to the iPad it was re-sorted correctly in the Markdown category. I repeated this a couple of times with others, making minimal changes on the Mac e.g. adding a word, and the changed files synced into the correct Markdown category. So perhaps this is a legacy issue from when the files were first synced. I can work through the important ones on the Mac to trigger a re-sort.

Are they old files but recently added to the database or added long ago?

Old files added long long ago. The oldest date from 2013 back in DT2 time!

Yes, this is presumably a legacy issue. You might be able to solve this by running Verify & Repair on the database in question. Let me know if it remedied the situation.

The issue was wider than I realised. I had been looking at one group only in one database, but adding a smart group to identify markdown files across all databases showed quite recent ones in the Other category.

So, as you suggested,I ran Verify and Repair for all by databases on both iPhone and iPad. Watching the Activity window on iPad I could see it running a process Updating Item Groupings. This has eliminated the Other category when sorting on Kind. Thanks!

One thought, sometime in the past for reasons now forgotten I enabled the hidden preference PlainTestIsMarkdown (since disabled). Perhaps that screwed things up in terms of identifying groupings of items.

That might be, but then they should have shown up as plain text documents. Well, good that we able to solve it.
