Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that my DEVONthink 4 sync log (syncing between Mac and DEVONthink To Go 4) gets filled with “empty file skipped” messages very quickly - easily 100-150 entries over time.
I have the impression that this is also slowing down the synchronization process noticeably.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is this a known problem with a specific cause?
I’m wondering:
• What typically causes these empty file messages?
• Does the high volume of log entries actually impact sync performance?
• Are there any recommended steps to resolve this?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
A database with empty files is not a healthy one (noting we recognize some file types can legitimately be empty and DEVONthink doesn’t report those as problematic).
- Clear Window > Log.
- Do a File > Verify & Repair on the database.
- Press Repair when prompted.
- Press Ok in the next dialog.
- Check Window > Log for empty or missing files.
At this point, you can assess any similarities, including points of origin for the documents.
- Control-click a result and choose Reveal if you’d like to see where the file resides in the database. Then use the Move to Trash option.
- If you don’t need the file, then use the Move to Trash option.
- If you do need the file, you’ll need to find a copy of the file and reimport it. This may involve restoring the database from your backups, opening the restored copy, and moving files between the restored and current database. When you’re done, delete the restored database so you don’t have two of the same database in the system.
- Empty the database’s Trash to remove the problematic files.
- Do a File > Verify & Repair Database to check if it’s healthy now.
- Repeat the steps with other databases as needed.
