Syncing only parts of my DBs from Mac to Mac?

Hello,

The DBs on my Mac at home are quite big. I sync via iCloud to my iPad and iPhone and download only what I need while I’m on my trips - a few GB. I’d like to do the same for my Macbook, but I cannot find a similar mechanism like on the iPhone, it seems I always have to sync and download the whole DB. Is this correct, or did I miss something here?
Thanks for your feedback.
Regards, Alex

Typing „partial sync“ in the search box of the forum turns up several threads. Does by chance one of them answer your question?

Unfortunately not, I can’t find the information I need. It looks like I can’t decide on the second Mac which files or folders I want to download.

No you can’t sync a partial database and there is no support for a shallow sync in DEVONthink on the Mac. If space is at a premium on the Mac, you can put your database(s) on a connected external hard drive.

FWIW, the way I handle this problem is to have a “working” and an “archive” database. Only the working database needs to travel.

A very reasonable approach IMHO.

I find this disconnect between iOS and MacOs version a little annoying - I can understand mobile have less functions and defaults that are applicable but this decision to hv different functionality seems strange if not conducive to quality code (I only read now on mobile, have data disappearing, corrupted PDFs from OCR etc)

Random idea - you should be able to run the mobile version of DT on MacMini - which will give you the space saving functionality but the iPad interface I assume.

They are different platforms with different capabilities.

So, it’s not really surprising that apps differ, too. See for example the recent release of raycast. Or the different abilities of Shortcuts.
