Tags attached files created in Finder

I have a database where tags attached to files were either created within DT or were attached to a file imported into DT.
How do I prevent Finder from “seeing” the tags for those files it tagged, that are now only within DT?

When I click on one such tag in the Finder side bar it will show one or files with a dt3 extension, and is located under
~/Library/Metadata/com.devon-technologies.think3

Can I simply delete the dt3 file?

The .DT3 file is Spotlight metadata so if you delete it the file will not be searchable via Spotlight.
