Tags move to trash deleting efficiently

For consistency, I am simplifying names of tags and deleting the unwanted tags. Whenever (on the sidebar) I move a tag to trash, the sidebar jumps to the database start. Also, there doesn’t seem to a way of moving to trash more than one tag at a time. So not only do I have to scroll down to where I left off, but also repeat the same procedure each time.

Is there a quicker, more efficient way to delete unwanted tags?

In DT4, select all tags in the sidebar. Open context menu. Select “Move to trash”. I don’t know of a simpler way, though. Standard macOS approach, too.

Have you tried working from the item list?

Which is the item list?

I’m working on the sidebar Navigate, View: list

This is the item list:

If I delete a tag from the item list, I’m still in the same group and same place in the list. The selection just changes to the next item.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts in the item list to perform commands, like CMD-Delete to move items to the trash.

PS: Check the Windows chapter in the manual (Here Windows > Main Window > Item List) if you’re not sure what the interface elements are called.

Your “select all tags” made me think I’d not found the way to do that. I have now. Thank you

Thank you.

The difference is Tags (parent) and Tags for the particular database.

I’m not sure I understand. What difference?

A screen capture of each would be helpful.

The difference:

Globals>Tags. - the list of tags is not displayed on the sidebar, only in the separate view alongside.

Globals> select a database, expand ; the list of tags is displayed on the side bar, and in the separate view alongside the tagged text displayed.

As I said in the op, I am redoing the tags for consistency so am checking each item of text. My question originally was how best to delete the redundant tags. You answered that; The difference between what you said and what i was doing is that I was deleting the tags on the sidebar.

{Sorry, but I don’t have time for a screen capture of each)

The top-level Tags group in the Globals is a union of the Tags groups of all open databases.
